The Finance Department is responsible for the management of the financial affairs of the City including: accounts payable, accounting, budget development, debt management, financial reporting, fixed assets management, investments, payroll, purchasing, revenue collection, and utility billing and collection, property tax billing and collection and occupation tax/alcoholic beverage licensing.
The City of Milledgeville follows an open public process to review and adopt its annual budget as required by state statutes. Each year, during the months of May and June, the City Council holds budget workshops at which time staff and the council diligently review and analyze the preliminary budget proposal as presented by the City Manager. The workshops are open for public observation at which time public participation is allowed and encouraged through the formal process.
The City of Milledgeville was first awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for fiscal year 1984. This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental acounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment for its government and management. The City has continued to receive this award for 26 consecutive years. We have most recently received this award for fiscal year 2010 and the information for 2011 CAFR has been submitted. We are, indeed, proud of this accomplishment!
